Boutique firms prefer an exploration cruise that leans on dinners and long conversations. A regular regatta for an American firm is a different programme from one for a French boutique. Dietary needs are a story of their own. When a single flotilla carries kosher, halal, a severe shellfish allergy, gluten-free, low-FODMAP and vegan, every dish has to be tagged. Our standard is to request the dietary list 6 weeks before departure, so on the day of the trip the right food is on each participant's plate without anyone having to ask. That is the level of detail an experienced managing partner's assistant recognises in a minute.

It depends on the jurisdiction and the type of relationship. A client-cultivation regatta is usually structured as reasonable hospitality (the business purpose is documented, the invoice is split). We don't give legal advice — but we do provide documentation your compliance team will accept.
